Akros strengthens national health systems in developing countries, focusing on Southern Africa. Akros works hand in hand with national governments to develop quality surveillance systems and to roll out research and communication frameworks aimed at understanding health problems. Ultimately, Akros aims to develop and utilize new technologies to address these health issues with the proper solutions.
The DfID SAFE Strategy is a three-year program being implemented by Sightsavers Zambia with support from Akros. The program works with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) to eliminate blinding trachoma in Zambia by 2020. As a subcontractor to Sightsavers Zambia, Akros will provide technical and programmatic support to improve the collection, analysis, and use of data in the MLGH management information system for water and sanitation to: support face washing and environmental cleanliness, strengthen community surveillance platforms for water and sanitation, lead social and behavioral change communication to promote sanitation, and contribute to applied research activities.
The Strategic Support Officer will be able to work across multiple programmatic areas to support implementation across DfID SAFE Strategy districts. S/he will be able to manage various programmatic deadlines, identify best practices, and leverage implementation efforts across multiple programs.

Living and Working in Zambia: Fellows are provided with basic housing and a utilities stipend during the fellowship year. GHC coordinates housing for fellows in shared apartments or houses that meet GHC’s safety standards. Fellows at Akros will be housed in Lusaka, an urban city and capital of Zambia. National fellows have the option to remain in their own housing and receive a supplemental housing stipend.
